Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada, but was raised in the US. She's been an editor since the year 1995. Feminist Frequency is a site with video and an online blog on the representation of gender roles in pop media and popular. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. She is the founder and director of executive for Feminist Frequency A scholarly non-profit website which explores representations of women within popular culture narratives. Aiming to break down the stereotypes that are associated with females in pop culture she also seeks to bring attention to harassment targeted at women and other marginalized classes of people in the online environment. Sarkeesian is a graduate in political thought and social theory from York University. She is also a highly-respected public speaker. Sarkeesian delivered speeches to the TEDxWomen XOXO Fest and United Nations Broadband Working Group. She has been interested in feminist issues, gender and gender equality at a young stage of her life. In 2009, when she was still studying at university she started the Feminist Frequency website. The ambitious lady planned to start an internet-based series on the role of gender in games and was then the victim of an online campaign to harass her. The incident did not deter her, rather it strengthened her resolve as a feminist critic of media. Sarkeesian has been awarded numerous awards to recognize her prominent contributions to the field of feministism. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for many years and founded Feminist Frequency. The educational nonprofit explores women's representations within the popular culture stories.
