Dolly Parton, born Jan. 19, 1946, in Locust Ridge Tenn. to 12 children from a poor family children that would be raised with them eventually. She learned early how to get out of her difficulties by using her rich and vivid imagination. Prior to learning how to write and read Dolly Parton had already begun to compose her own music. After 8 years of age, she was playing her first guitar. When she was 11 years old she started singing at the Knoxville Tennessee radio station. In the same year, she recorded her first record on Gold Band Records a tiny independent label. At the age of 16, she established herself in the local community, however her goals were bigger. On the very day she graduated high school, it was 1964. Dumb Blonde (1967) and Something Fishy (1968) were her first two charting albums from Monument Records. Porter Wagoner had been looking for female performers to join his syndicated show in the years prior to this. Parton accepted the role in 1966. She then she joined RCA Records in 1968, and then the Grand Ole Opry was founded in the year 1969. She quit Wagoner's act in 1974 when her solo songs like Joshua Coat of Many Colors and Jolene beat out the collaborations. Parton's hit song, I'll Never Have Love for You (for Wagoner), hit the top of the. #1 spot following their broke up. First time, in 1974.
